While this week’s episode of This Is Us focused on the Pearsons’ past and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth’s (Susan Kelechi Watson) struggle to accept Malik (Asante Blackk) as Deja’s (Lyric Ross) boyfriend, season four, episode eight will center on Kevin (Justin Hartley), Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison) and Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne). Although we’re admittedly excited to see how Kevin and Cassidy proceed after their unexpected (but much anticipated) tryst, we definitely noticed that the new episode’s promo hinted we may learn more about Uncle Nicky’s past. See for yourself.
Sure, the signs are subtle, but it’s his reaction to learning about Kevin and Cassidy and his, um, performance in court that got us thinking.
We’ve felt since the beginning that Uncle Nicky and Cassidy may have some unknown tie. He did, after all, lock eyes with her specifically when he threw a chair through the VA meeting window in the season four premiere. He’s also mentioned that he had a sweetheart during the war who lived nearby, but said things didn’t work out. Could it be that maybe Cassidy is the daughter of that long-lost flame and she looks a lot like her mom? Another thought: Uncle Nicky could be so reluctant to celebrate Kevin and Cassidy’s new relationship because he knows how broken he was upon returning from Vietnam and he worries that Cassidy will be more of a harm than help to Kevin.
Whatever the case, it appears more will be revealed about Uncle Nicky come next Tuesday, November 12, at 9 p.m. PT/ET on NBC.
