'This Is Us' Actor Timothy Omundson Speaks Out About the Stroke That "Almost Killed Me"
Actor Timothy Omundson plays Gregory in season 4 of NBC's This Is Us.
Gregory is Kate and Toby's neighbor who is recovering from a stroke. He and Kate appear to be starting a friendship at the end of season 4's third episode.
Timothy suffered from his stroke in April 2017.
In the third episode of This Is Us season 4, viewers are introduced to Gregory (Timothy Omundson), Kate and Toby's neighbor who is initially very hostile toward the new parents. After Gregory complains a few times about Toby parking on the sidewalk, he tells Kate that he is recovering from a major stroke and is learning how to walk again (hence why Toby's parking is problematic). At the end of the episode, Kate and Gregory go on a stroll together with baby Jack in tow and seem to be on good terms.

On the night that Gregory's introductory episode aired, Timothy tweeted that it was "kind of a big day for him." Like his character, Timothy suffered a stroke himself in April 2017.

In response, Timothy received an outpour of support from his fans and fellow co-stars. "Welcome back my friend. You are an inspiration and television is better when you’re on it," show creator Dan Fogelman tweeted back at the actor. "We are so lucky to have you, @Omundson ! So very lucky!" Chrissy Metz also said.
Who is This Is Us actor Timothy Omundson?
Before Timothy crossed paths with Kate on the NBC hit drama, he starred in several TV series and movies, including Galavant, Supernatural, Deadwood, and American Housewife. Perhaps his most famous role as of late though is police officer Carlton "Lassie" Lassiter in Psych. Lucky for fans of that series, Timothy is set to reprise his iconic role in 2020 for Psych: The Movie 2. In the upcoming film, Lassie will also be on the mend after having a stroke.
Timothy has also been a voice actor in several video games (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Hutt Cartel, Shadow of Revan, Knights of the Eternal Throne), and Castlevania.
When it came to This Is Us, Timothy told TVLine that Dan said he would try to get him involved. After Dan texted Timothy his thoughts on Gregory's character, the actor was all for it.
"I was really excited to dig into this stroke recovery story, and just tell it warts and all. Because up until that time I had kept my current disabilities under wraps. I was in a wheelchair for months," he revealed. "The [doctors didn’t] know if I was ever going to walk again, let alone walk onto a set."
Timothy also talked about his current prognosis with the outlet.
"I’m feeling very optimistic about it. I’m slowly getting some movement back in my arm, so I’m optimistic that, that will continue to get better."
