Urban Downhiller Grabs A Face Full Of Pavement

Downhill mountain biking is dangerous enough on dirt, when you add concrete and the urban environment to the mix it becomes an entirely different animal.

The slightest mistakes turn from an annoying roll in the dirt to a pretty painful slam on the pavement. Take a look at a perfect example of that below.

This clip really just went from bad to worse in a hurry. Firstly, that is a horrible place to slip a pedal, no matter where you go down it's going to suck.

His bike also took a pretty hefty hit there so it might behoove him to give that a once over before going out again. As a general rule, it is always a good idea to give your bike a look over after a crash. They are incredibly durable, but freak accidents do still happen.

The same goes for protective gear, full faces, like half shells, are generally advertised as a "one hit and done" product. And no, it's not just to sell more helmets, they are systemically designed to mitigate the most force possible into the shell of the helmet and away from your dome. If the system is compromised then it can't do that to its full capacity.

Anyway, just be safe out there and check your gear from time to time.
