'Unusual' Animal Up for Adoption at Texas Animal Shelter Is Ready for His Forever Home

It's no secret that animal shelters around the globe meet so many furry and feathered friends searching for their forever homes. Most of those animals are cats, dogs, and small animals, but occasionally, these shelters get a surprise... just like this beautiful rooster at Texas' Copperas Cove Animal Shelter.

After a resident found the stray rooster, the city's police department and animal shelter were happy to help. As the Killeen Daily Herald reports, Roger the Rooster is now residing at the shelter alongside the cats and dogs. However, he's attracted the attention of bird lovers and rescue nonprofits (like Adopt a Bird Network) nationwide!

Isn't he beautiful? He looks so clean and well-groomed for a stray bird! In fact, there's a lot of missing information in his story, and it's really got our minds churning.

As the Killeen Daily Herald Reports, a Copperas Cove resident first alerted authorities to the rooster's presence after a surprise encounter.

"Roger the Rooster was found in someone’s backyard who doesn’t own any chickens,” said Copperas Cove Police Department's Lt. Krystal Baker. That must've been such a shock! Luckily, officials were able to take the male chicken into custody, though it's unclear who transported him from the backyard to the rescue.

So what's next for Roger? Finding him a forever home!

Lt. Baker shared, "Roger is available for adoption and there are no contract requirements for his adoption so his contract would be complete upon payment.” His adoption fee is only $25, so his new owner will have plenty of money left to help this guy settle in. Here's the catch: you can't live in Copperas Cove! Roosters are not allowed to be kept as pets within the city limits, though we're sure there are plenty of potential homes for him outside of the town.

Good luck, Roger!
