Unravel Project Debuts Denim "Belt" for $400

In today's edition of Weird Denim, you can now buy a pair of legless, pocketless, crotchless jeans for $405.

The New York Post reports that streetwear brand Unravel Project is selling a "denim belt," which is literally just the waistband of a pair of jeans, for hundreds of dollars, all in the name of fashion.

In case you were hoping there was more context to this quirky piece, there isn't! What you see is what you get. "In the Resort '18 presentation, Unravel Project used denim belts to nip in the waist of its slouchy and oversized pieces," reads the product description on Net-a-Porter. "Designed to appear like it's been sliced from the top of your favorite jeans, this faded blue version has frayed edges and exposed pockets. It looks even cooler with a slim leather strap over the top."

To be fair, it does look pretty cool styled on top of an oversize sweatshirt, but not necessarily $405 worth of cool.

Unravel Project, by designer Ben Taverniti, is known for its experimental take on streetwear, and celebs like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian West, and Gigi Hadid are all known to be fans. Taverniti was also the mastermind behind the "Inside-Out" jeans that went viral last year, which in a similar vein to his latest denim belt, were literally just an inside-out pair of jeans that retailed for almost $1,000. Sigh.

As out-there as the denim belt may seem, it's not hard to imagine Bad Gal RiRi or KKW throwing it on over a baggy T-shirt and a pair of stilettos and absolutely slaying the street style game. But even so, if you aren't looking to drop $400 on the weirdest denim trend since bare-butt jeans, here's a thought: Take an old pair of jeans that you haven't worn since high school, cut off everything but the waistband, and style it over your sweaters/dresses/other pants. Voilà! You've got yourself a #lewk.
