This unlikely social media site used for dating

LinkedIn is preferred over dating sites for setting up dates, according to a new survey conducted by DatingNews.com.

The researchers wanted to find out how people arrange dates in today’s world.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • 61% of individuals aged 35 to 40 found their dates on LinkedIn.

  • Even though 45% of respondents reported using online dating sites, a slightly higher proportion—48%—preferred the spontaneity and mystery of blind dates.

  • 31% of respondents say they look for love at the gym.

  • 24% of respondents have used apps like Duolingo, the language-learning app, to find love!

  • 45% of respondents said they look for love at social events.

This comes after Business Insider published an article detailing stories of women who both used the site for dating, and received date requests on Linkedin.

Dustin Kidd, a professor of sociology at Temple University who researches social media told Business Insider, “Even fitness-tracking sites such as Strava are fair game. The common thread for love-hijacked social-media sites is a single feature, DMs.”

This apparently isn’t a new phenomenon. In 2017, a post on the site titled, “7 Reasons Why Everyone Is Using LinkedIn For Dating” went viral.

The reasons given? Honest profiles, easy vetting, can use them as a reference if dating doesn’t work out.
