Uniqlo to Bring Back Coveted Uniqlo U Collection

It’s confirmed! Fashion’s favorite high street store, Uniqlo, is launching the second season of Uniqlo U on Feb. 17. If, like me, you didn’t manage to buy up the whole collection the last time, get that reminder set up — pronto.

Under the artistic direction of the supertasteful Christophe Lemaire — the former designer for luxury house Hermès — at the Uniqlo Paris R&D Center, the Uniqlo U collection is the perfect marriage of functionality and style. For the past year, the company’s Paris R&D Center has become a testing ground for its designers to experiment with fabrics, new techniques, and one-of-a-kind shapes.

Uniqlo’s ethos has always been about perfecting the classic — the company believes that there’s no need to remake what is already great — and its design team focuses on creating technology that reinvents the basics, to create a better version of each product.

The second collection boasts 61 items for women and 43 for men (a decidedly bigger assortment than last year, when Uniqlo created 50 for women and 35 for men) and will consist of the best of its colorful basics — jackets, dresses, T-shirts, and the company’s amazing, ultralight down jackets.

This season, the collection will feature a new fabric that feels like cotton, plus swimwear and rash guards.

The men’s lightweight jackets and pants will also feature breathable and water-repellent fabrics.

The campaign images, shot by Jonas Lindstroem, give us a glimpse of what we can expect: We’re forecasting that the utilitarian denim jacket paired with jeans and the men’s khaki trench will be the collection’s most coveted must-haves.

Prices start at $9.99 for swimwear and range up to $99.99 for outerwear. The collection will available to buy starting Feb. 16 at Uniqlo stores and online.
