This past May, we saw the inaugural Uprising Tokyo contest unfold, an all-new Pro/Am skate event held at the Ariake Arena in the Japanese capital and hosted by Yuto Horigome (even though he humbly denies it in the video, ha!)

The course was pretty insane, with iconic replicas of both LA’s Hollywood High 12-stair handrail and San Francisco’s Clipper hubba in the mix. "I asked Yuto why he do it to us like this," joked Jamie FoyAre those dimensions correct?

Call me bias, but I love how perfectly he encapsulates the vibe of the Sk8mafia crew being there. "Having the Sk8mafia dudes here just makes it feel different in a sense of like just skating and having fun," he said. "It's not just like everyone is here to win the contest. They don't care. They're just having a good time skating."

There were a ton of heavy hitters in attendance, from Ishod Wair and Shane O'Neill to Carlos Ribeiro and Cookie. All your familiar favorites and all the hungry up-and-comers that are biting at their heels.

Jamie Foy got mic'd up and roamed around the grounds to give us a first-person view of his experience navigating press conferences, contest strategy, avoiding ‘racehorse push’ and witnessing the onslaught of a Best Trick contest for the ages. I was already a fan of Jamie Foy, but my admiration grew after watching this.

I don't know too much about this contest, but it attracted the best of the best and if Yuto is involved, well, they can do no wrong.
