Zane Phillips went viral with a red-carpet interview for Out where digital director Raffy Ermac asked if the Fire Island actor was aware of the speculation that he should be cast in the titular role an upcoming live-action Hercules film from Disney.
“I would love to do it,” Phillips said. “It’s so funny, like, I have a musical theater background. I’ve sung that song [‘Go the Distance’] in a weird, random cabaret before. Yeah, I love that movie.”
Phillips’ response to the Hercules question started making the rounds online, and the internet did its thing. Just a few days later, TikTok user @jericho.edits found the performance of Phillips singing “Go the Distance” in the “random cabaret” that he mentioned — and you can watch those two videos stitched together in the video below.
Replying to @Dan he has a background in musical theater!
In the TikTok video, @jericho.edits made sure to include a comment from a person asking, “Can he sing though?” Well, this video from 2015 shows that Phillips can sing and serves as even more evidence that he’d be perfect for the role of live-action Hercules.
Meanwhile, the video is being re-shared on other social networks, and fans are reacting to footage of Phillips singing this iconic Hercules anthem from nine years ago.
