How I found this breakfast sandwich maker

I’ll be honest: I was tired of spending so much time preparing breakfast — or even worse, spending cash on an anemic selection at my local coffee shop. I had seen this popular gadget online and in stores and figured it was time to give it a try — and see if it lived up to its hype.

Like most electronic gadgets, the Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker comes with several pages of instructions, but I opted for the quick setup instead. Within minutes, I had my ingredients ready to go, and dove in, hoping for the best. Thankfully, I was not disappointed, and my very first sandwich turned out great. I was sure I would miss a step or get something wrong, but nope — simple as advertised.

Since I got this sandwich maker, my family and I have enjoyed experimenting and trying out all kinds of different recipes. It’s been a wonderful go-to option for a quick morning breakfast before work or school — and even for snacks or smaller meals throughout the day. Like many of you, I have quite a few devices lying around the discarded kitchen gadget graveyard, but this one has stayed one of our favorites. It’s small enough to store in a drawer or cabinet, and as an added bonus, it’s easy to clean as well.

Why this breakfast sandwich maker is a score

This breakfast sandwich maker is a versatile kitchen appliance that has a ton of benefits, including saving serious cash. By letting each family member craft their own sandwiches for breakfast or dinner, there’s a lot less spending going on for meals. And with more than 25 provided recipes, it also encourages culinary experimentation.

The device has three different layers, and the idea is to add your bread, meats, cheese and veggies on the bottom, then your egg on a separate plate, and top it off with more bread. Then it layers the whole thing for you once it’s cooked.

Of course, you can experiment with things like an open-faced sandwich, grilled cheese and even English muffin pizzas. Plus, it’s fast. The first time I used it, I was thrilled to have a hot sandwich ready to eat in less than five minutes. And as an added bonus, setting up and cleaning the appliance is also a breeze since all its parts are dishwasher-safe — and its compact design makes it suitable for small kitchens and dorm rooms (this is a BOON for college students), saving valuable kitchen counter space.

Yet, with all these assets, my favorite thing about the Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker is how much healthier I can be with my choice of fresh ingredients. Go ahead, add those nutrient-rich spinach leaves or go with egg whites and low-fat cheese — while gluten-free folks can go to town as well with their choice of wheat-free breads. And say goodbye to fattening, processed options (we’re looking at you, Dunkin).

In the end, if you want to save money, time and even be a little healthier, you should not hesitate to try this one out. And in addition to school and workday meals, it’s been a favorite at my house on weekends and family gatherings as well. There’s no doubt, the Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker offers you an easy go-to meal option you’ll want to use again and again. And for just $30, less than a fast-food meal for a family of four, what do you have to lose?
