Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe makes specialty kringle for total solar eclipse

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe is a hit for kringles in the Greater Green Bay Area, and with the Solar Eclipse taking place on Monday, the business offered a one-of-a-kind limited item.

The award-winning bakery decided to play along with the eclipse festivities and create an eclipse-styled kringle for Wisconsinites to enjoy ahead of the solar eclipse.

Local 5 News caught up with Nathan Vande Walle, Co-Owner at Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe, to talk about the specialty item and what inspired them to join in on the fun.

“It was a very last minute thing,” explained Vande Walle. “A week ago, we thought, ‘We have to do something for the Eclipse,’ and kringle is the main thing that we sell, so we thought, ‘Let’s figure out a kringle with cheese and chocolate.'”

Immediate feedback was fantastic for Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe, so much so that customers were hoping the business would ship the specialty kringle, but Vande Walle says the decision to keep it in-store only is the right one.

“It builds more excitement in the store,” added Vande Walle. “Maybe during the next eclipse, we can ship them.”

The next total solar eclipse won’t be until 2044, so Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe has a little more time to prepare should they opt to deliver.
