Umm, This Side-Loc Updo Is Absolute *Fire*

From Cosmopolitan

The jury's still out on whether or not I'll ever get real locs, but one of the biggest misconceptions about the hairstyle is that you can only wear it two ways: down your back or up in a ponytail. Welp, I'm here to let you know that locs are way more versatile than you might think. On this episode of The Braid Up, Stasha Harris transforms her mom's basic locs into an absolutely stunning updo. Meet the side-loc updo with two-strand twists (psst: you're going to love it).

Down to recreate this look? Here's what you need to know:

1. Laying your edges is a must if you want to level up your look. Use a fine-tooth comb and a non-flaky edge-control gel to slick down your parts and edges.

2. Add hair rollers to the ends of your twists, then dip them in hot water. This step isn't shown in the video above, but it'll help make your ends come out super curly and seal them so they don’t unravel.

3. Cleanse your scalp with a rinse. A root rinse is absolutely necessary for protective styles. They keep your scalp clean and healthy, allowing your hair to grow strong and long—and isn’t that what everyone wants?

4. Wear a silk scarf to sleep. Frizz can instantly derail your hairstyle, so be sure to wrap your look in a silk scarf to keep your hair smooth while you get some shut-eye.
