Um, Okay, These Raised Loc Braids Are So Dope

From Cosmopolitan

I know you're probably getting tired of me waxing poetic about how damn versatile locs are...but I'm here, once again, to remind you that this hairstyle is so. Freakin'. Versatile. You can literally create any look you want with locs, so it's definitely worth it to put your commitment issues aside, take a leap, and try them out. This week on The Braid Up, the tables are turned a bit. Stasha, our regular hair guru, is our model this week, and she's having a friend complete the look on her. Stasha's locs are transformed into raised loc braids—a hairstyle made up of a large cornrowed braid, faux bangs, and pipe cleaners (yup). Prepare to be obsessed.

Want to recreate this look? A few things to keep in mind:

1. Wash your locs beforehand—this helps get rid of any buildup, so you can start out with a fresh and clean foundation. After your locs are shampooed and conditioned, moisturize with an oil to keep your hair soft and hydrated.

2. Grab a dollop of edge control to re-twist your locs. Work the gel through each loc, twist, and then secure with a silver clamp. They'll be left looking super sleek.

3. Add in bangs. I promise, there are no scissors involved in the making of this fringe. Instead, wrap extensions around the locs in the front of your head, blending and folding the two pieces together, to create faux bangs.

4. Finish off your look with pipe cleaners. Once you've got the large braid in the back of your head, have your braider wrap the ends of your locs around pipe cleaners. Once the locs are all wrapped up, the ends should be tucked in, leaving you with a cute bun on the top of your head.
