Here’s the thing: Locs are a big commitment, and they can be pretty high-maintenance (especially when you first get them). But if you do decide to take the leap and opt for this look, trust me—you won’t regret it. Not only are locs beautiful, but they’re also super versatile. Like, you don’t have to wear them just in a ponytail or down your back. That’s why this week on The Braid Up, Stasha Harris is showing us how to do a loc re-twist with braids. It’s a fire look that anyone—regardless of age or gender—can rock.

Want to try out this look? A few things to keep in mind:

1. Shampoo your hair before re-twisting your locs. This is key—you don’t want to re-twist your new growth without making sure your hair is properly washed. Use a sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse your hair without stripping it, then follow up with a conditioner to add some moisture.

2. Work a hair oil through your locs. After conditioning, you want to make sure you really lock (lol) in the hydration—apply some hair oil to seal in the moisture and keep your hair strong and healthy.

3. Re-twist with a hydrating butter or cream. Be sure to use a moisturizing, light-hold curl cream to help hydrate your locs and give them long-lasting definition.

4. Wrap your hair with a silk scarf while you snooze. This is a major key if you want to keep your locs from unraveling. Plus, it’ll help make sure your hair stays smooth and soft.
