The Ultimate High-Fashion Croc Is Here

In everyone's life, there comes a moment when you realize you've been lied to: For there to be beauty, there doesn't necessarily have to be pain. That's the moment when you come around to Crocs.

For me, the Croc enlightenment happened in a church. At Simone Rocha’s fall 2024 show, a model walked through the pews at St. Bartholomew’s Church in a freaky transparent dress with patches of brown fur at the shoulders and hips, styled with pearl-embellished Crocs. Another wore a gray hoodie layered under a transparent corset with a matching skirt with shimmering floral adornments and matching white platform bedazzled Crocs. While I’ve never thought of Crocs as particularly divine, Rocha made them feel angelic.

Today, the Simone Rocha x Crocs collection is finally available to shop. In Rocha’s world, three Croc silhouettes—the Siren Clog, Classic Clog, and Quick Trail—are frosted with her signature pearls, crystals, and jet beading. On social media, they’ve caused a frenzy and are anticipated to sell out nearly instantly. And while there have been high fashion Crocs before (Christopher Kane’s marbled clogs with jibbitzs meant to look like minerals, Balenciaga’s controversial platform Croc), none have been received with quite the same unanimous delight at Rocha’s.

On Instagram, Rocha uploaded a photo of a pair of baby-pink Quick Trails and one commenter wrote, “Mother of God.” Under a photo of the black platform heels, another wrote, “I don’t even like Crocs but these” followed by a fire emoji. By the time Rocha uploaded a photo of the simple black clog slide with pearls jetting out the toes, multiple fans demanded to know, “WHAT TIME!” in regards to the launch. Another wrote, “If only, if only, if only.”

One photo from the collection campaign has been stuck in my mind for days. It is of a model in a tiered transparent dress, with ruched fabric made to look like the piping of wedding cake frosting, her face covered by a pearl beaded headpiece and her toes peeking out from a clear pair of Simone Rocha Croc clogs pierced with large bauble pearls and beads.

It's beautiful in a way that could be intimidating, and yet it somehow isn't. The slip-on Croc clogs give the bridal look a feeling of comfort; they bring Rocha's otherworldly universe closer to our earthly reality, one imbued need for shoes that won't make our toes bleed or blister. Yet it still feels like a dream. And what is more heavenly than that?
