With a seemingly unending array of soap options out there, it can be difficult to know what is best for your skin. According to the Food and Drug Administration, very few commercially made soaps on the market are true soap; the majority of cleansers are synthetic detergent products. As a growing demand for all-natural, organic goods arises, we’re going back to the basics in some cases. Enter goat milk soap, a substance that goes as far back as ancient Egypt around 40 B.C. More recently, it’s making a big splash on the skin-care scene, earning brownie points for its soothing properties and fresh ingredient list. As many are gushing, it’s a true farm-to-home experience worth adding to your routine and that guest bathroom. Want to know more? Ahead, you’ll find everything you need to know about the game-changing soap that just might be your best gift to yourself.

What Is Goat Milk Soap?

Incorporating fresh farm ingredients is an integral part to making the quality soaps, says Goat Milk Stuff’s Brett Jonas. Like all goat milk, Jonas’s soap is made with natural fats and oils and raw goat milk, instead of water. “We use goat milk fresh from our herd of Alpine dairy goats, after the babies have had all they need to drink, of course,” Jonas explains. “The goat milk adds all the cream, fats, and proteins to the soap, which makes it really moisturizing for your skin. When you use goat milk fresh from the farm, you’re able to maximize the benefits that transfer into the soap and therefore onto your skin.”

The most common form of goat milk is a standard bar of soap, but it can also be found in serums, face masks, and other skin-care products.

What Are the Benefits of Goat Milk Soap?

Besides supporting small farms, goat milk soap offers many health benefits. “Goat milk contains 54 percent prebiotics that feed the skin’s microbiome and support healthy skin. And the fatty acids in goat milk produce a rich, creamy lather,” explains skin-care brand Beekman 1802’s Ayesha Bshero. Additionally, unlike body products that have a tendency to dry out or irritate your skin, goat milk soap moisturizes and nourishes it while also cleaning it. “It’s a wonderfully gentle option for those struggling with skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, and more,” Jonas adds.

How Can You Use Goat Milk Soap?

An elegant bar of goat milk soap, especially when placed in a stylish soap dish, can be a choice little luxury for any lucky bathroom-goer, but don’t be afraid to think outside the bathroom vanity. “Goat milk has the same pH level as human skin, making it the first-ever microbiome-friendly ingredient that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils,” Bshero tells us. “It’s safe to use daily on your face and the rest of your body for cleansing and moisturizing.”
