The Ulta Foundation Adjusting Drop Kit Lets You Custom Design Your Makeup

Real talk: Finding a foundation color in your exact shade ain't the easiest thing in the world. I can't tell you how many shades I've swatched over the years only to discover that maybe, just maybe, my exact skin tone and undertone don't exactly fit into the "Fair" foundation category — and don't even get us started on foundation options for those of us with darker complexions. Luckily, Ulta's come forth with an answer, the Ulta Foundation Adjusting Drop Kit.
Following in the footsteps of the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation and the Best of Beauty-winning Cover FX Custom Cover Drops, the beauty retailer full-coverage color-adjusting drops that allow you to lighten or your darken your foundation to match your skin tone with just a few drops of tint. Let's break down the kit, shall we? Inside the box there are two pigment drop shade options — a light, which is a creamy cool beige, and a dark, which is a warm tawny bronze — and each offers a number of different uses.
According to the company, the lightening drops are best used to move your overall foundation base a shade down during changing seasons, neutralize a yellow-toned foundation, and — wait for it — cover a sunburn. (Sounds great, but based on a recent story we covered surrounding a Reddit user's use of foundation to conceal her sun damage, we're going to kindly ask that no, you do not use makeup to help heal your burn.) The darker drops work best if you're looking for a deeper tint, say, for instance, in the middle of summer or after coming back from a tropical beach vacay (and uh, jealous). Either are a great option if you bought a foundation that looked perfect in the store, only to come home and find it's just a little bit off. Which brings us to our next point.
It's important to remember these drops are meant to be used with your existing foundation, not as a replacement for. Just apply your own foundation to the back of your hand and then slowly add in a couple of drops of the color of your choosing — light or dark. From there, slowly mix up the shades with your fingertip, and you'll quickly find yourself with a custom color ready for application. We recommend applying with a Beautyblender or similar blending sponge for that coveted dewy, filter-like finish.
