Uh oh, production has shut down on the Lizzie McGuire reboot, and that's not the only bad news

Hey, now—we weren’t ready for bad news on a Friday. While we’ve been excitedly learning all the deets about the Lizzie McGuire reboot for months, this is one detail we’re upset about. Terri Minsky, the original creator and showrunner of Lizzie McGuire way back in 2001, has stepped down from the reboot, meaning production has been halted.

Filming for the Disney+ series began in November (remember when Hilary Duff was carrying a giant llama around NYC?), and since then, we’ve been milking every little announcement about the show. From the original actors resuming their roles as the beloved McGuire family to rumors of an “Ethan Craft thing” to (drumroll please) Gordo returning to Lizzie’s side, we’ve been all smiles when it comes to this highly anticipated reboot.

But after just two episodes of filming, Minsky is leaving the Lizzie McGuire reboot, meaning that production cannot resume until a new showrunner is chosen.

Smells fishy to us. Wouldn’t you think production would have hashed out the “creative direction” for the series before they started filming? We’re no entertainment industry whizzes, but do know that a lot of money and effort is put into creating a series, so you’d think things would be pretty well planned before said expensive filming began.

Also, the “sentimental attachment” that fans feel to Lizzie McGuire was created by Minsky, so this statement seems a bit ironic.

Luckily, star Hilary Duff is currently on her honeymoon in Mozambique with husband Matthew Koma, so she’s probably still on cloud nine right now. Although we imagine that Minsky was an integral part of Duff’s original Lizzie McGuire experience, so this is bound to feel like a big change.

We wonder what the different creative direction is going to be because Minsky took the original Lizzie McGuire series in exactly the right direction in our opinion. Whoever the new showrunner ends up being has got some big shoes to fill.
