Uh, 2023’s Biggest Hair Trends Are Officially Here—and They’re *Good*

New Year's Eve is usually a big ol' excuse for making big changes in your life, but this year, you may actually want to follow through on that flimsy resolution—at least, when it comes to your hairstyle. In past pandemic-filled years, we've been drawn to the more subtle switch-ups, like a few highlights here or there, and a little trim of your ends. But according to hairstylist Xavier Velasquez, 2023 hair trends will have a maximalist approach. In other words, more is more, and bigger is definitely better. We're talkin' more volume, more length, bigger curls, bigger waves, and bigger color transformations—so get ready.

“We’re seeing a movement towards looking more groomed after being at-home for so long during COVID,” says celebrity hairstylist Garren. “People want to get back to styles that are easy for them to handle with styling and are classically gorgeous, since we are going back to the office and normal life." So what does that mean? "Think healthy, voluminous, classic looks, with modern twists and layers,” he says.

Basically, consider 2023 to be the year of the comeback with the voluminous curls of the '70s, the shaggy mullets of the '80s, the bouncy blowouts of the '90s, and the side parts of the '00s being bigger and better than ever. Now get scrolling for some serious hairstyle inspiration.
