From Cosmopolitan

  • Last year, fans went crazy when photos of Reese Witherspoon throwing ice cream at Meryl Streep on the set of Big Little Lies surfaced.

  • Unfortunately, the scene was cut and Meryl just explained why.

Big Little Lies aired last night, and if you somehow managed to peel yourself away from watching your friends’ never-ending firework Instagram Stories for an hour, you may have noticed the biggest travesty to ever happen to Sundays on HBO. Yes, the rumors you may have heard ’round the interwebs are true. The show officially cut the iconic scene where Reese Witherspoon’s character (Madeline) chucked an ice-cream cone at Meryl Streep’s character (Mary Louise). Bottle up your sorrows for a second and hear Meryl’s justification for why the show did us so dirty.

So, while the show was filming last year, photos of Reese throwing ice cream at Meryl made the rounds. It was just what we all needed to get even more excited about the second season of BLL, but when the time finally came to watch Mary Louise get what was coming to her, the scene was unceremoniously cut!

Honestly, I’m not even angry right now. I’m just disappointed that we didn’t get another scene where Meryl nearly throws out her vocal cords screaming and one I can deem as a “big f*cking mood.”

Devastated, fans took to Twitter to express their outrage. One even wrote:

“Are you kidding me. are you f*cking KIDDING me. did #BigLittleLies fully film, and then DELETE, the iconic moment where reese witherspoon chucked an ice cream cone at meryl streep? i ............... don’t know who to turn to. i don’t know where to go. @HBO how could you.”

But! Meryl explained that all is not lost, and we may get to see the showdown later...on DVD. (And also in 2008, apparently.) In a just-published interview with Entertainment Tonight, the ~acteur~ said Reese broke the news to her before the season began and explained, “It’s going to be in the DVD extras.”

Um, can we also get that on HBO Go, please!?
