I couldn't fit an l-shaped sofa or sectional in there even if I had the money to. But this article isn't about me and my living room. It's about yours and the big u-shape sofa we're going to put in it.

The u-shape sofa world isn't overflowing with options. With luxury sofas like these, the market leans towards custom made. Skylar U-Chaise Sectional

For a classic and comfortable sofa, we love this one from Interior Define. The shape is unremarkable, but the sofa is incredibly comfortable. The cushions, in either the down or down alternative, are the perfect blend of firm and plush. The armrests are high and angled, perfect for lounging. The U shape comes from two chaises that are great for family movie nights. Quite simply, it's a great sofa.

Faible 6-Piece Sectional

Even if you don't have a sunken '70s living room to put this thing in conversation pit style, it can still invoke that design ethos. CB2, our favorite modern maker of vintage-inspired furniture, crushed it with this Faible sectional.

The shape is beautiful. The leather is stunning when you see it up close, and it'll last you a lot longer than fabric. The only thing we'd say is it needs a few pillows, which is a bit of a to-do, given the size.

Field Leather 8-Piece U Sectional

CB2 has the look of a conversation pit down, but Burrow is one of our favorite brands that actually makes something true to the shape and style. This is a big sofa, and it's all interior facing. Put a small coffee table in the middle, and you've got a centerpiece that's made for lounging with and talking to each other, not watching TV next to each other.

Hargrove 3-Piece Sectional

This one is similar to the model from Interior Define. Though it's a tad less plush for movie nights, it's good if you don't want to overwhelm a space. The legs lift it off the ground, which makes your living room feel larger than if the sofa went all the way to the floor. As for the overall look, it's classic and timeless.

Union Double Chaise

There's nothing to stand out here. This u-shaped sofa looks good, is comfortable, and comes with plenty of options for upholstery. What more do you need?

Movie Night Sectional

This one says it in the title. The Sundays Movie Night Sectional is, you guessed it, our favorite for stretching out and watching a film or TV. It's big, more comfortable than most beds, and there's pillows to toss around.

This large option is great for a house with a lot of space, but the standard size—which is a few hundred dollars cheaper—might be better for apartments.

Kova L-Shape + Ottoman

If you're in an apartment, or just especially neat and tidy, a storage ottoman is a nice investment. This u-shaped sofa from Albany Park has an ottoman that opens up to store blankets, extra pillows, a laptop tray, or whatever else you can fit in there. It's a great solution for anyone that needs it.

Coburn Six Piece Corner Sectional

I guess plenty of these sectionals are corner sectionals, but for some reason this Arhaus one fits that mode the best. The chaise on one side gives you a place to lounge, but the other closed in side lends itself to being pushed up against a wall.

Beyond the shape, we the seats on Arhaus sofas. They're comfortable but not soft. They hold you, but they won't sink in with years of use. And on this sofa, we love the throw pillows. They really add some versatility.

Laurent 3-Piece U-Shaped Sectional

Love the rounded off shapes of a curved sofa? We can get behind that. You don't see it often with u-shaped sofas because they already take up so much space. Most makers keep it simple with squared-off designs.

This one from West Elm fits the bill, though. Yes it's big, but if you've got the space, there's not a better centerpiece out there.

Dawson Chaise Sectional Sofa

This sofa from Castlery is a lot like the Movie Night Sectional from Sundays. We think it's a bit more buttoned up, not as deep or cushy. It's a great option if you think the Sundays one would be too comfortable.

Gianni Sectional

If you've got a penthouse (lol) or palatial living room that needs a statement piece, why are you reading this story? You should just hire someone to do this stuff for you. (My email is open.) But I get wanting to check out the couch market for yourself.

Beyond something custom built by a designer you like, this Gianni sofa from Arhaus is the perfect solution. It's big, beautiful, and comfortable. Pair it with a Leica projector and you've got my dream living room setup.

Modular Sectional Sofa

If you're on the opposite end of the wealth spectrum from that Arhaus sofa, welcome to the club. The consolation for people like me and you is that you can actually buy some nice furniture on Amazon these days.

This one won't last as long as any of the real options on this list, but you probably don't expect it to. It looks fine, is plenty comfortable, and comes in under $2,000. Worth it.

U-Shaped Sofa

And if you just need a budget option, this one from Karl Home will do the trick. The look is simple, the chaise sections are comfortable, and Amazon will ship it to you within a week. What more do you need?

What to Consider When Buying a U-Shaped Sofa

Here are some things to think about.

Dimensions - Obviously, figure out if this thing is going to fit in your home. That part is simple.

Materials - I love a leather couch. Some people like velvet, and others like linen. Think about what you want.

Couch Legs - Besides the actual shape of the couch, the legs are the most important part. A couch without legs that goes down to the floor makes a room feel smaller. A couch that's raised up off the ground adds a sense of air to the room. It gives the gentle illusion of more space.

Design Purpose - This one is more abstract. Do you want this giant u-shaped sofa for movie watching or hanging out with friends and family? Maybe both? Either way, that can affect the type of sofa you should buy. Will all the seats be front facing, meaning towards the TV, or will they face the interior?
