U.S. to 22 European Cities from $400 Round-Trip

In the aftermath of a few chaotic days in the airline industry, we have a fare war on our hands.

It’s been a crazy few days of news from the airlines: Delta’s mass cancellation of 3,500 flights led to chaos at airports around the country (and, for one family, a payout to the tune of $11,000); and United Airlines’ overbooked flight from Chicago O'Hare to Louisville led to the forcible (and now viral) removal of another passenger. But Tuesday brings with it some better news: a flight deal. Currently, American and Delta are in the midst of a fare war, serving up round-trip flights from 93 (!) U.S. cities and counting to 22 European hubs including Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and London.

The flights start around $400; a 50 percent savings, as hops across the pond often come with a price tag of about $800 round-trip, notes Scott Keyes of Scott’s Cheap Flights, who spotted the American fares last night.

Deals are good for spring travel from late April through early May, which is encouraging news for those hoping to attend Amsterdam’s annual King’s Day celebrations, which sweep the Netherlands on the last Saturday in April; or explore Rome’s Colosseum before the summer crowds hit (you can now take a tour at night!).

Fares are also good for travel from September 2017 through February 2018, which means you can escape Parisian crowds and stroll the gardens of Versailles during a quieter time in the city. Consider, too, destinations like Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is home to a handsome 96-room hotel.

How to book: Plug your dates into Google Flights. Keyes notes some dates aren’t bookable via Google Flights, so if it doesn't give you the option to book or tells you to call the airline, take the dates you've found to Priceline or Momondo. No matter where you choose, this deal will be a quick to go, predicts Keyes, so book soon if you’re interested in a European jaunt, since you have 24 hours to cancel and get a full refund. (Note: Every U.S. city does not have flights to every European city, so play around with departure and arrival destinations to score the biggest discount.)
