Tyson Foods has closed down some of its meat processing plants due to safety concerns related to COVID-19. Now, as the company plans to reopen some of its idled facilities, it is teaming up with Matrix Medical Network to offer on-site medical services to employees.

In a news release, Tyson Foods explained that there are already quite a few existing policies for employees that were put together by a coronavirus task force. Those procedures include the installation of infrared temperature scanners, requiring facial protection, hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility, and social distancing while at work. This partnership with Matrix Medical Network will add additional support to the already existing policies.

The on-site medical services will only be available at select Tyson locations and they will offer diagnostic COVID-19 testing, on-site screening, easy access to nurse practitioners for employees who need it, and employee education-related health concerns. In addition, Matrix Medical Network will be working with Tyson to address environmental design changes that should be made within the facilities in order to "mitigate the risk of COVID-19 spread."

Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Tyson Foods Hector Gonzalez said in the release that the company is looking to reopen some plants but wants to do so as safely as possible. "Tyson is committed to implementing all possible measures to protect our team members,” he said: “We want to reopen our previously idled facilities, but also want to instill confidence in our workers and reassure them that we care deeply about their individual health needs. Our partnership with Matrix Medical Network will allow us to take additional precautions to help keep our employees safe."

Earlier this week, Tyson Foods issued a letter that explained a meat shortage is on the horizon and said "the food supply chain is breaking." You can read the full letter from Tyson here.
