Fast & Furious 9 kept teasing us that it was going to be heading off into space, and while it did seem like a logical next step for a franchise that has gone so over-the-top with its action as its released more films, we weren't sure if they were actually going to go through with it.

Now that the film has released, we found out that Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej (Ludacris) really did go into space.

We weren't the only ones who thought the space thing was just a joke that wasn't going to happen, as Tyrese recalled thinking it was a bit too much and tried to swap his place in the scene with someone else. Of course, now he's changed his mind about it.

Speaking to Vulture, the actor said: "First thing I did was chuckle, and then I chuckled again. Then I had to ask them, were they serious? Then I asked them again. At first it was like, 'Come on, guys, it's gonna be corny as hell.'

"Then when I got to set and realized how serious they were, I actually started campaigning for Ludacris to go to space with his counterpart Nathalie Emmanuel. Because I thought, these characters are always talking about gadgets and computers and that's not something I really do.

"Then they just shut it down, man, and I just ended up letting them do what they do.

"And now my phone is going crazy, not just about us going to outer space but about what I ended up saying and doing when I went to outer space. So they make the big bucks for a reason, they know more than I do."

Unsurprisingly, the film has performed strongly at the box office, breaking the record for a pandemic-era movie.
