Tyra Banks reveals she’s gained 25 pounds since 2019 'Sports Illustrated Swimsuit' cover

Just last year, Tyra Banks opened up about wanting to lose 30 pounds before returning to the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit for the first time since 1997. But after making the decision to be photographed for the 2019 issue as she was, the supermodel since says that she’s actually gained 25 pounds.

“I have a very interesting relationship with food. I have to say, that it is one of the most important things in my life,” the 47-year-old said during an episode of “Food Diaries” for Harper’s Bazaar. “So much so that right now, you can’t tell because I have on a men’s blazer, I am 25 pounds heavier than I was on the cover of a very famous swimsuit magazine that came out last year.”

Banks was praised when the April 2019 cover hit shelves, after the magazine’s editor, MJ Day, told the former America’s Next Top Model host that her body should be “celebrated” no matter her size. After creating a new immersive and model-inspired attraction called ModelLand, Banks explains that her schedule is what led to her subsequent weight gain.

“So it’s like when you’re tired and you’re working hard, you just go to this fast food and this fast food and this fast food, and you compare the burgers,” Banks said in the video. “So I’m 30 pounds heavier, and it’ll come off one day. But not today.”

Banks later took to her Instagram to post her interview, where she joked, “Let’s just say, since starting quarantine, this list of what I’m eating may have gotten a little longer.”

“You are wonderful at any size! It is nice to see a public figure be so honest about food,” someone commented on her social media post. Another wrote, “I love how real this is, thank you!”
