Actor Tyler Labine, who starred as Dr. Iggy Frome in the hit medical drama New Amsterdam, had a 2023 July 4th weekend that included an unexpected visit to the hospital as the actor dealt with a major health condition.

Labine shared the news on social media, bringing fans along with him in a video documenting the hospital trip as he recounted the events in the caption.

He began the post by saying, "Sometimes it’s a Tuesday and you’re walking around with a tummy ache so you try to sleep it off. Then sometimes you wake up on a weds with a stomach ache so bad you decide to go to the ER at your local hospital."

Unfortunately, in this case, the "tummy ache" turned out to be something much more serious, as Labine went on, "And then sometimes your tummy ache turns out to be a potentially fatal blood clot in your intestines and liver and you have to spend the next 3 days in the hospital trying not to die. Just sometimes."

Labine assured fans that he is recovering well, writing, "I’m doing alright. Slow recovery but I’m here with my family supporting me and my lovely girlfriend Martha taking care of me. Im counting my blessings and just possibly reassessing what’s really important to me in this life. Thanks everyone. SO much love."

He tagged his girlfriend, Martha Harms, on the post as well. Harms is also an actress, with most of her extensive resume consisting of voice work.

Ryan Eggold, who played Dr. Max Goodwin on New Amsterdam, wrote in the comments, "Brother 🫶🫶," while another co-star, Janet Montgomery, said, "The hashtags though 😂 call me. Hope you are ok."
