Ty Pennington is on the mend after a scary incident left him intubated in the ICU earlier this week.

The former Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host opened up about the experience on Instagram yesterday, July 14, revealing that just two days after he hit the red carpet for Barbie, he was being hospitalized for an abscess that had nearly cut off his airway.

The reality TV star, 58, shared a series of photos, including one of him in a hospital bed throwing a thumbs up to the camera, followed by a photo of him while intubated, and a couple of other additional moments from the hospital, explaining in the caption:

"Sunday I hit the red carpet for @barbiethemovie , monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckenridge and Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am and could barely breathe 😰."

A sore throat he'd been dealing with over the last month turned out to be an abscess that had grown so much it was beginning to close off his airway. "Next thing I know, I was intubated and flown to the ICU in Denver," he continued.

On Wednesday he had surgery, and he was discharged from the ICU Thursday afternoon. He went on to thank the staff at St. Anthony’s hospital in Lakewood, CO, as well as Summit Health in Frisco, for the great care they gave him, and prompted his followers to listen when their body tries to tell them something.
