2 Sussex County restaurants tell customers they are closing their doors for good

Consumers continue to prioritize restaurants as they burn off the pent-up demand they had accumulated during the pandemic, according to the National Restaurant Association, but that's not enough to keep some doors open.

Two restaurants in Sussex County recently announced they were closing.

Sydney's Restaurant & Lounge in Milton ended its three-year run and permanently closed after a New Year's Eve celebration. The American restaurant that focused on seafood and Southern food also featured live music.

It was not affiliated with the old Sydney's Side Street, a restaurant that showcased blues and jazz musicians that once operated in Rehoboth Beach.

Sydney's Restaurant & Lounge was located in Paynter's Mill in a space that was once home to Kindle restaurant now in Lewes.

Chaps Pit Beef of Rehoboth announced on Facebook on Monday that it would be closing its doors on Sunday, Jan. 21, after nearly six years.

Chaps Pit Beef opened a franchise in Rehoboth Beach in March 2019. The eatery was founded in Dundalk, Maryland. The Delaware location announces it was closing on Jan. 21, 2024.

The casual restaurant serves Baltimore's “World Famous” barbecue pit beef sandwich and is located next to the Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant.

Chaps Pit Beef, a Maryland favorite since 1987, opened its Delaware location in March 2019 in Coastal Station off Route 1.

A Facebook message posted Monday read: "From the bottom of our hearts, It's been a real pleasure serving you. Thank you for all your support! If you have a gift gift card, you will not be stuck with it. Contact me via email, chapsofrehoboth@gmail.com and I'll make sure you get your money back if you can't make it in. Thanks."

No reasons were given for the closings.
