Two people killed in head-on crash in Tolland, two children injured

Two people were killed in a head-on collision in Tolland Sunday afternoon, and two children walked away with minor injuries.

Connecticut State Police said the accident occurred at about 1:25 p.m. on Merrow Road, where two motorists were heading in the opposite direction before colliding.

Driving a 2008 Toyota RAV4 southbound, Coventry resident Amanda Bowen, 66, crossed over the yellow center lines while negotiating a right curve in the road, striking a 2007 Subaru Legacy that was being driven in the opposite direction by 64-year-old Bryan Flint of Ellington, according to state police.

Both Bowen and Flint suffered fatal injuries, state police said. Flint was the deputy director of the Cornerstone Foundation in Vernon.

Two children in the Legacy, ages 7 and 9, who were seated in the backseat, suffered what are believed to be minor injuries, according to state police.

Any witnesses to the crash, which is still under investigation, have been asked to contact Trooper Kevin Hoyt at the Tolland Resident Trooper Office at 860-926-4695 or Troop C at 800-318-7633.
