Two Huge Snakes Fell Through The Ceiling of This Australian Home
Yesterday, I had a small breakdown trying to eradicate a tiny spider from my bathroom. So when I say that it pains me to write this, I'm not being that hyperbolic: Two enormous snakes came crashing through the kitchen ceiling of a home in Brisbane, Australia.
Steve Brown, a snake catcher with Brisbane North Snake Catchers and Relocation, was called to remove the snakes and posted about the incident on Facebook. In the caption of the now-viral post, he explains that he received a call from a customer who found "two very large coastal carpet pythons (Morelia spilota mcdowelli) in his house when he got home." When Brown arrived at the home, he discovered that the snakes had fallen through the kitchen ceiling. He found one near the front door and the other in a bedroom. Brown told CNN that carpet pythons, which are non-venomous, are not aggressive if they are left alone.
Photos Brown posted show the ceiling damage and the snakes in the home. There are also photos of Brown holding up the snakes outside. If you couldn't already tell from the pictures, the snakes are, in fact, huge. According to the Associated Press, Brown estimates that the carpet pythons measure 2.8 meters (9 feet 2 inches) and 2.5 meters (8 feet 2 inches) long. Together, they weigh about 45 kilograms (100 pounds).
So why did the pythons crash through the roof? Brown thinks the snakes they were fighting over a female nearby that he suspects might still be in the roof. According to the AP, the males were returned to the wild, but the suspected female snake has yet to be found... I would definitely keep looking into that.
