Two fundraisers at Botanical Garden this summer

The Western Kentucky Botanical Garden has two fundraisers coming up this summer.

Laurna Strehl, the Garden’s executive director, said Mark Cabaniss, a Nashville-based music publisher, writer, producer, broadcaster and speaker, will share stories from his book, “Confessions of a Shameless Name-Dropper,” at 4 p.m. June 23 in the penthouse at Bell Bank, 234 Frederica St.

And the Garden’s 15th annual Daylily Festival is slated for July 6.

Strehl said tickets for the Cabaniss event are $50 and the event is limited to 100 tickets.

They will be on sale until June 21 at www.wkbg.org/store/p114/Mark_Cabaniss-_A_Sampling_of_Broadway_Musicals_Accompanied_by_Diane_Earle.html.

Cabaniss will incorporate samplings from well-known Broadway musicals in his talk and he will be accompanied by Diane Earle, professor emeritus of music at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

The event includes a signature cocktail and a specially designed menu by Moonlite Catering.

Strehl said the Daylily Festival will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on July 6.

More than 800 varieties of daylilies will be on display.

Events include a Silent Disco, live music, a photo booth, food trucks, a cash bar, a petting zoo, face painters and a bubble wonderland.

Strehl said the Daylily Festival usually draws about 300 people.

She said the garden “has the largest daylily public display bed in the region with more than 800 daylily varieties to discover. When our daylilies are in bloom, it is a magnificent time to visit and celebrate the botanical garden.”

Strehl said the garden encourages visitors to take photos.

Western Kentucky Botanical Garden is at 2731 W. 2nd St.
