Two fast-casual eateries coming soon to Route 250 in Penfield

Two popular fast-casual restaurants are slated to open this summer in a newly constructed building on Route 250 in Penfield.

Among the new tenants in the 11,000-square-foot building at 2067 Fairport Nine Mile Point Road are two fast causal restaurants - Jersey Mike's Subs and Five Guys.

The third tenant, which would occupy the largest space of 6,635 square feet in the center of the building, was not known by town officials, said Chris Tanea, the Town of Penfield's communications director. That revamped storefront is currently listed as an available rental on LoopNet.

The building replaced a medical office that was partly demolished to make way for the new retail space, according to Penfield Town Planning documents. The project was approved by Penfield's Planning Board last year, but site plans did not provide specifics on which eateries would occupy the retail space.

Jersey Mike's is known for its authentic fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs on bread baked fresh within the shop — the same recipe it started with in 1956. The New Jersey-based chain confirmed that the eatery is set to open in a 1,500-square-foot space at the northeastern corner of the building in mid- to late-June. An official opening date has not yet been set, according to a company spokeswoman.

With more than 2,700 locations nationwide, there are 88 Jersey Mike's restaurants in New York, according to the company's website. Locally, the Penfield shop will be the eighth Jersey Mike's store to open within the Rochester region.

According to the Five Guys, a burger joint known for its hand-cut fries and made-to-order burgers, the Penfield eatery is set to open in June. The Penfield Five Guys will be located in the southeastern corner of the building, Tanea said. The storefront totals just over 2,900 square feet.

The Penfield eatery will mark the sixth Five Guys' restaurant in the Rochester region, according to the company's website.

Both eateries will be open daily.

The new building is located in the Parkside Commons plaza, behind Valvoline and just north of the intersection of Routes 250 and 441.
