Two Dead After Horrific Small Plane Crash in Suburban Neighborhood

Two people are dead and a third is seriously injured after a small plane crashed into a home in Newberg, OR on Tuesday night, about 25 miles southwest of Portland. And the seconds leading up to the crash were caught on video by a bystander.

According to Fox 12 News, 911 received multiple calls just before 7 p.m. from witnesses who observed a small airplane spiraling towards the ground and crashing near North Cedar Street. When respondents from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue arrived at the scene, they found that the plane had crashed into the roof of a nearby home and had partially landed in the backyard.

Emergency personnel first found one deceased individual in the craft, and later discovered a second person who was dead after gaining further access to the plane. A third person who was described as "seriously injured" was also located and airlifted to the hospital in a helicopter.

It was initially believed that no one was in the home at the time, but officials later interviewed the homeowners and learned that they got out safely. The plane was still inside the home as of shortly before 9 p.m., and the Red Cross is working with the fire unit to ensure that the displaced residents get help.

Local resident Micah Schauer captured the horrific moment the aircraft spiraled towards the earth, which was posted to Facebook by his girlfriend. (Warning: the below video contains strong language.)

It's still unclear what caused the crash. However, the plane reportedly took off from Hillsboro Flight Academy, which trains its students to become professional airline pilots, located about 20 miles away. Jacob Fuhrer, a spokesperson for the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, said that the crash was being investigated by the FAA and NTSB.
