Two Caddo Parish nonprofits have received grants from the Louisiana Culture Care Fund
The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities with support from the State of Louisiana awarded more than $450,000 in grants to 49 humanities organizations in 27 parishes − including two in Caddo.
The Louisiana Culture Care Fund (LCCF) gave 45 organizations general operating grants and four organizations received Strategic Partnership grants.
The LCCF launched in 2020 in an effort to help organizations mitigate impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic and keep them financially solvent. With support from the State of Louisiana, this year's fund provided Louisiana's cultural nonprofits with money to help pay operational expenses like staff payroll and benefits, rent, mortgage, insurance and utilities.
The grants were awarded to 501(c)(3) nonprofit cultural organizations, public libraries and state and federally recognized Tribes with strong humanities focus, like museums, historic sites and archives. Humanities-focused media, festivals and more are also included in these grants.
"Cultural organizations across our state continue to struggle to reach pre-pandemic levels of support and engagement, further exacerbated by hurricane impacts," said LEH Director of Grants Eric Voisin. "The organizations these grants support engage the public in programming about our shared human experience. They create access points for learning and growing that enable us to connect with our histories, ourselves and one another."
The Robinson Film Center in downtown Shreveport was the recipient of one of those grants. RFC is a nonprofit independent movie theater that provides the community with opportunities to see indie films, provides educational programming and more. They host various series that shine spotlights on local filmmakers, important films focused on current social issues and more.
The Caddo Pine Island Oil & Historical Society and LA Oil & Gas Museum also received a grant. This energy education resource is dedicated to preserving the Louisiana petroleum history at Caddo Lake. It's located about 20 miles north of Shreveport. It is the first public museum in Louisiana dedicated to the petroleum industry and maintains an extensive local history library and collected photographic archives.
