Twitter Slams Melania Trump For “Victimizing” Herself After Capitol Riots

It took five days for her to release a statement.

Melania Trump has finally issued a statement about last week's insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and once again, Twitter is not here for it.

The First Lady released a statement Monday morning where she addressed the violence that occurred but the first thing she did was make it about herself.

"I am disappointed and disheartened with what happened last week," she wrote. "I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me – from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda."

People on Twitter immediately pointed out how much the statement was about her.

One user wrote, "Melania Trump finds a way to turn a statement about an attack by her husband's mob on democracy, which killed people, into a whine about people gossiping about HER. Narcissism in action. The sooner these bloated, stupid chancers are out of public view the better," one person said.

Other users accuse her of victimizing herself in this situation.

"Wherein five days later @FLOTUS⁩ acknowledges what happened, but once against chooses to paint herself as victim."

"It quite a feat to twist the events of last week's horrific attack to make oneself the biggest victim," another user wrote. "But somehow, Melania Trump found a way."

"Melania Trump finally issues statement on the US Capitol attack, but get this- makes herself the victim! The most useless First Lady in the history of First Ladies."

Ultimately, the First Lady condemned the violence, but like her husband, accepted no real responsibility. She writes, "I implore people to stop the violence, never make assumptions based on the color of a person's skin or use differing political ideologies as a basis for aggression and viciousness. We must listen to one another, focus on what unites us, and rise above what divides us."

And just a paragraph later basically says she is inspired by the impassioned insurrectionists.

"It is inspiring to see that so many have found a passion and enthusiasm in participating in an election, but we must not allow that passion to turn to violence. Our path forward is to come together, find our commonalities, and be the kind and strong people that I know we are."

Like Ivanka Trump did in her initial and now deleted statement, Melania wrongly conflates passion and patriotism with domestic terrorism and was rightly called out for it.
