Twitter Reacts to Net Neutrality Repeal
This afternoon, the Federal Communications Commission voted to repeal net neutrality, which enforced regulations to prevent internet service providers from favoring or blocking traffic from certain websites.
Although FCC commissioner Ajit Pai insists the change will help customers and create competition, critics of the repeal argue that there is not enough competition in the market for internet providers (like Verizon, Comcast and AT&T) to offer the best service to web users. Possible effects could be higher costs for consumers and a slower, less secure internet, according to Mic. However, the fight for an open internet isn't over yet; organizations are pushing for Congress to overturn the FCC's decision.
Eighty-three percent of Americans oppose the repeal, according to a recent survey. Some of them took to Twitter today to react to the news. Naturally, some reacted with humor.
