It's finally here.

After years of anticipation, the official trailer for Disney's live action reimagining of The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey, has arrived. The film's star, Halle Bailey and her costar Melissa McCarthy (who portrays the film's villain Ursula) presented the trailer during the 95th annual Academy Awards on Sunday.

The trailer featured all of the standout moments from the original film that longtime fans would be looking for; and emotional debate between Ariel and King Triton (Javier Bardem), the fiery shipwreck that allows Ariel and Prince Eric to meet, and of course those famous water-bound hair flips. The Little Mermaid is the latest live action adaptation of classic animated features from the famed film studio, following in the footsteps of The Jungle Book, Aladdin, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King.

Bailey has spoken in the months leading up to the film's release about what it means to star as the film's titular character, Ariel, especially as a young Black woman. When her casting was first announced, there was racist backlash to the news of her taking on the role, which the young actress and musician has taken in stride.

“As a Black person, you just expect it and it’s not really a shock anymore,” Bailey told The Face regarding the initial backlash. "When [Chlöe and I] first signed to Parkwood,[Beyonce] was always like: ‘I never read my comments. Don’t ever read the comments.’ Honestly, when the teaser came out, I was at the D23 Expo [the biggest Disney fan event] and I was so happy. I didn’t see any of the negativity."

Twitter was quick to celebrate the new clip with fans of the original movie and Bailey chiming in with their excitement for the upcoming adaption. We've rounded up the best tweets, below.
