The 2022 Met Gala is here — that magical time of year when celebrities show up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and do the *absolute most* on the red carpet. Whether you were you’re lined up outside the museum or wondering what really happens inside the Met Gala and which celebs were on the guest list, it’s an exciting time for fashion fans everywhere.

This year’s Met Gala theme is Gilded Glamour, and "Motivation" singer Normani is 100% bringing all the glam. We’re obsessed with her red carpet interpretation of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion," and so is Twitter, clearly.

We've died, and gone to heaven. The singer went for a show-stopping all-black custom ensemble by Christian Siriano consisting of two pieces: a puff-sleeve bra top with a strappy choker neckline, and an asymmetrical low-rise mermaid skirt that showed off her midsection. Normani wore a fascinator (a.k.a. a mini hat: predicted that one here) on her head to top off her glamorous up-do.

Normani has had an exciting year, to say the least — from her 2021 smash hit “Wild Side” with Cardi B to guest starring on Disney+’s revival of “The Proud Family” to her newest single “Fair,” the former Fifth Harmony singer is paving her own way. We caught up with Normani’s glam team to talk all things gilded beauty, as well as how to recreate the "Motivation" singer's look for prom!

Ashanti Lation, hairstylist and founder of VIP Luxury Hair Care, explained how she styled the singer's Met Gala hair look. "We knew early on that we wanted the headpiece to be a moment," Ashanti tells us. The glam team decided to dye Normani's hair in a darker wine color to stand out against her black ensemble. They then went with a swooping updo reminiscent of the looks from the late 1800 to early 1900s.

Ashanti says, "People don’t realize it, but Normani’s hair is actually natural, so to get it sleek and straight, I rely on The SILK SHOT System by VIP Luxury Hair Care, which includes a heat protectant serum and spray that makes the process super easy and less harmful."

If you're looking to recreate Normani's stunning Gilded Glamour look for your prom glam, Ashanti gave Seventeen a little tutorial on how to achieve the Met Gala up-do. "After flat-ironing, I recommend creating large curls with a 1” barrel iron and pinning them up into a curly bun. Then, take a portion of the uncurled hair from the middle and swoop it around and up into the bun. Finally, using hair pins, secure the hat to the opposite side."

Normani’s makeup was done by celebrity makeup artist Priscilla Ono, whose roster of A-List clients is nothing to scoff at — Rihanna, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B, to name a few.

Priscilla tells Seventeen, "I wanted to do a nod to the Gilded Age with the beauty marks and the blushed cheek, but then modernizing it with a really flirty, full lash from House of Lashes and a little pop of color with the green eyeshadow." Priscilla and Normani decided to stick to the singer's signature brown-nude lip to finish off the look in a way that felt classic and polished.

When it comes to Normani's skin, prep is everything. Priscilla used luxurious La Mer sheet masks, creams, and serums to ready the skin. "It gives her skin that beautiful hydration so that I could go ahead and use less foundation."

And the beauty mark on Normani's skin? Liquid eyeliner. Priscilla laughed as she told Seventeen how people used to create fake beauty marks by licking tiny pieces of fabric and sticking them to their faces. Before the days of liquid eyeliner, of course!

Priscilla recommends using a cream blush to create a natural flush, and not overdoing it on your foundation. Another prom necessity? A good deodorant — Priscilla is partnering with Secret and tells us that she carries the Secret Dry Spray Deodorant in her makeup toolkit for any last-minute client emergencies. "It's perfect for when my client is wearing black on the red carpet so nothing shows!" she says. Sounds like something you might want to grab for prom, too. 👀

Keep slaying, Normani. We can’t wait for your solo album to drop.
