Twitter Has Come Between Donald Trump Jr. and His Wife Vanessa, Allegedly

Junior “appears to have changed recently, and friends are concerned about him.”

Every day across America marriages begin, and every day marriages end. Usually not the same marriages. Different marriages are starting or ending on any one given day. Anyway, the ones that do end are for all types of reasons: lack of communication, intimacy issues, and diverging priorities or visions for the future. Sometimes it’s not one person’s fault. Sometimes it’s definitely one person’s fault. And for some very specific people, everything was fine until one person got mixed up in a little Web site called Twitter.

Page Six has reported that Donald Trump Jr. and his wife, Vanessa, are on the path to divorce. They spoke to various “friends” and people “close to the couple,” and have armchair-diagnosed them with a couple issues. One is that since Junior’s dad became president, suddenly everything was not “low-key,” the way Vanessa likes it, but instead, extremely high-key all the time. A second issue is that Junior has always traveled a lot, and he’s traveling even more these days: hunting big game, running the Trump Organization, at jury duty, hawking luxury condos in India. And the third is that Don Jr.’s tweets have grown more unhinged. These friends are concerned, pointing especially to the fact that he liked tweets linking antidepressants to school shootings. The couple declined to comment to the Post’s multiple requests for comments, and Don Jr. has not yet tweeted about it as of writing.

But as tends to happen with such gossip, there are equal-opportunity anonymous sources to hear from. One unnamed friend is not concerned about the tweets, and says that Don and Vanessa are trying to work through their issues. He or she says Donny J’s “bold and aggressive nature” has always let loose on the platform. “His behavior hasn’t changed. There’s nothing irrational about him. He’s always been bold, will say what he thinks, and fight back—that’s his personality on Twitter,” the source continued.

They do have “issues” that they’re working through, this person says, and there’s no denying that Vanessa Trump has been through it lately. While the American public waits to learn the ultimate fate of the union, might we suggest some archival reading material to occupy its time? Take this 2006 International Herald Tribune article, preserved now by The New York Times, that explains the couple’s origin story:

“I’m at this fashion show,” Vanessa Trump said, recalling their meeting in 2003. “Donald Trump comes up to me with his son: ‘Hi, I’m Donald Trump. I wanted to introduce you to my son Donald Trump Jr.’”

The three engaged in a brief, awkward conversation.

At intermission, the elder Trump again noticed a gorgeous girl nearby.

“Donald comes back up to me again, ‘I don’t think you’ve met my son Donald Trump Jr.,’” Vanessa Trump recalled. She remembers responding, “Yeah, we just met, five minutes ago.”

Truly, a meet-cute for the ages.
