Twitter approves of new 'Superman' prequel series, 'Krypton'

Syfy’s new series Krypton has a lot of new fans, according to Twitter. A sort of prequel to Superman, the series is set about 200 years before Kal-El’s birth. The main character, Seg-El, is Superman’s grandfather.

The pilot episode was full of familiar bits and Easter eggs for franchise fans, like the Fortress of Solitude and the red cape. But there were also surprising plot lines.

Seg-El’s love interest is Lyta-Zod. Yes, Zod. As in one of Superman’s greatest enemies, General Zod. So there’s a Romeo and Juliet vibe going on.

Fans seemed especially fond of the series villain, Brainiac. Brainiac is described thusly: “It moves from planet to planet conquering civilizations, destroying billions of lives. It’s known as the Collector of Worlds.”

Fans seemed particular impressed with the high production value of the CGI elements of Brainiac and the practical effects. And many are looking forward to seeing more of the supervillain.

Krypton airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on SYFY.
