New Year’s twins born minutes apart—but on different days, months, and years
This gives a whole new meaning to “older” and “younger” siblings. Two pairs of twins born just minutes apart on New Year’s Eve (and Day) found themselves with entirely different birthdays — and birth months, and even birth years.
It’s an unusual story for even one family to get to tell, let alone two. But a couple from Connecticut and a couple from New Jersey both welcomed New Year’s twins this year which made their arrivals this way.
At Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut, parents Mykel and Aliyah Kiyomi Morris welcomed baby boy Seven Morris at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2023. He weighed 6 pounds and 9 ounces. Just a few minutes later, his younger sister, Souli Morris, arrived at 12:02 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2024. She weighed the exact same as her big brother.
Meanwhile, in New Jersey, a couple from Merchantville welcomed their son Ezra at 11:48 p.m. on Dec. 31. He weighed 6 pounds and measured 18¾ inches long. A little while later, his brother Ezekiel joined the party, at 12:28 a.m. on Jan. 1. He weighed 4 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 17¼ inches long. The hospital told reporters that both baby boys are healthy and doing well. To add to the celebration even more, Ezra shares his birthday with his dad. And the couple has another son at home who will turn 3 on Jan. 3.
The last time a set of twins was born over the New Year with birthdays in different years was two years ago, at the Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, California. They say the odds of it happening may be as rare as one in 2 million.
