They say that good things come in threes. Hopefully, that applies to major business acquisitions. Following the news of Campbell's acquiring Rao’s Homemade and a private equity firm buying out Subway, there’s a third deal going down with Hostess Brands selling to J.M. Smucker for $5.6 billion.

Hostess, the maker of many iconic snack-aisle goodies such as Twinkies, CupCakes, and HoHos, has experienced waning consumer demand in the face of higher prices for Hostess products, which led to the brand exploring purchase interest from brands such as J.M. Smucker. As a part of this deal, J.M. Smucker is assuming Hostess’ approximately $900 million in debt.

In a press release, Mark Smucker, CEO of J.M. Smucker said, "We are excited to announce the acquisition of Hostess Brands, which represents a compelling expansion of our family of brands and a unique opportunity to accelerate our focus on delighting consumers with convenient solutions across different meal and snacking occasions."

One thing this deal may mean? A host of familiar snacks with fillings from Jif and Smucker’s products. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Chocolate Peanut Butter Twinkies made with Jif peanut butter, or Fruit Pies with a Smucker’s jam twist. Unlike the Rao’s Homemade and Campbell deal made earlier this summer, fans aren’t up-in-arms over the purchase, though some are similarly predicting potential new snack items that may come from the deal.

In response to a Reddit post about the deal, one commenter said, "To be honest I'm sort of interested in a PBJ Twinkie." Another said, "Jelly + cream filled Twinkies sounds great."

Regardless of where you fall on the reaction spectrum, if you find yourself in need of a sweet treat after reading, don’t sleep on our DIY Twinkies, Hostess CupCakes, or a HoHos-inspired cake with layers of cake and cream filling.
