Twin Dragon Makes its Return to Kingpins New York

Twin Dragon Marketing Inc. (TDMI) is making its return to Kingpins New York, the denim manufacturer’s first time back on the show floor since it rebranded to TDMI last year.

Taking place July 19-20 at Basketball City, the trade show is a chance for members of the denim community to mix, mingle, check out the latest fabric developments and more. “This will be our first time back since 2019,” said Stephanie Poon, director of marketing and merchandising at TDMI. “We are excited to share our new innovations with old and new faces at Kingpins, a place that allows us to showcase our new looks with denim experts.”

New offerings

At Kingpins, the Los Angeles-based manufacturer plans on featuring an array of sustainability-focused innovations, including its Cotton-Less collection. Cotton-Less features fabrics that use more lyocell and recyclable materials to decrease the use of cotton.

“Although cotton is still an integral fiber in this industry, we see the need and demand to procure less due to its high-water consumption at the agricultural level,” said Poon. “The goal of this eco-friendly collection is to keep the integrity of the denim aesthetic while adding lyocell for higher tensile strength and a smoother hand feel.”

In addition to Cotton-Less, which cuts down on the use of cotton, TDMI will also showcase Zero Cotton, a line of items that omits cotton altogether. In this group, exhibitors will find 100 percent lyocell and lyocell recycled poly blends, offering sheen, an extremely cooling hand and great wicking capability.

Smart Soft line, which encompasses fabrics made with special spinning techniques in the yarn to create a soft and velvety hand feel for added comfort and versatility, will also be on display. TDMI will also have its Comfort Stretch and Performance denim as “the market continues to steer in that direction,” according to Poon.

Another collection TDMI will be showcasing is AtmoS Denim, a new planet-friendly line made with 100 percent recycled materials and sustainable fibers, including lyocell.

“AtmoS Denim is made with Japanese hollow fiber using the most advanced innovative technology with approximately 30 percent hollowness (the highest in the industry) combined with cotton and lyocell fiber to create a soft feel and a more durable denim,” said Poon. “The mixture of all these components yields an amazing development that keeps you airy in the summer and cozy in the winter.”

While TDMI has ramped up its own sustainable initiatives since its inception in 1980, the mill believes educating its customers is the only way for the industry to achieve total circularity.

“As a mill, we can only control what we put into the fabric—sustainable fibers, eco-friendly dyes and finishes—but we believe the only way to achieve 360 circularity is by introducing and encouraging our brands to use eco washes in their garment production processes,” said Poon. “The research has shown that eco washes use 80 percent less water and 70 percent less chemicals compared to conventional washers. These stats show that we could diminish the massive destructive impacts on the environment from the garment industry if all manufacturers would adopt these methods.”

“We are excited for what the future holds,” continued Poon. “Make sure to stop by our booth at Kingpins to learn more about our innovations and what else we have in store.”
