So It Turns Out *This* Actor Is the Reason ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Is Ending
If you were crestfallen to learn that season 12 of The Big Bang Theory will be the show’s last, then knife, meet science-pun-loving heart.
The long-running hit CBS comedy is reportedly coming to an end because the show’s star, Jim Parsons, was ready to move on from portraying his preternaturally quirky character Sheldon.
According to Entertainment Weekly, CBS was eager to continue the series and tried to renegotiate Parsons’s contract for an additional two years. Since the Emmy winner earns nearly $1 million per episode, he could have cashed in a check for a cool (approximate) $50 million if he pushed through two additional seasons. Instead, Parsons opted to make season 12 his last and since the show centers on him, the network decided to end The Big Bang Theory’s run.
The final season kicks off on Monday, September 24 on CBS at 8/7c, before the show returns to its normal Thursday at 8/7c time slot on September 27.
All good things must end, even when they’re the longest-running multi-camera series in TV history. *Sigh*
