Bar carts are useful for more than just serving up tasty cocktails. They’re also a great way to show off your unique interior design aesthetic! Host Melanie Sutrathada (@melaniesutra) is sitting down with artist and interior design expert, Maggie Antalek (@maggieantalek), to talk about ways to style your bar cart and transform it from a utilitarian piece of furniture into an expression of your style!

The first step, according to Maggie, is stocking your cart with items that are not only practical, but beautiful as well. Maggie starts by showing off the gorgeousWilliams Sonoma Mixology Shaker Set and Tools. “Everything that you need to create a beautiful cocktail is in this set here,” Maggie says, showing off the set which includes everything from a cocktail shaker to ice tongs. “I love that we chose this particular set because it’s brass, it comes in this gorgeous wooden holder, it has a beautiful aesthetic, and so it serves as its own decor as well.”

Next up, Maggie suggests pairing your cocktail shaker set with a matching ice bucket. “This is also super important because then you’re not running to and from the freezer,” she explains. “I think that when you’re entertaining guests, having an ice bucket is super important.”

Along with your ice bucket and shaker, stylish cocktail glasses are a bar cart must-have. For glassware, Maggie recommends the Fiore Coupe Glasses from Williams Sonoma, which are made of hand-cut lead-free crystal.

Once you have your essentials chosen, you can personalize your bar cart with a cocktail recipe book or even fresh herbs! Maggie explains that growing your own herbs isn’t just a great way to upgrade the flavor of your cocktails. A few tiny planters of fresh herbs are also a great way to decorate your bar cart. “I love having live plants around no matter what,” she says.

To organize your bar cart, Maggie suggests putting the most aesthetically pleasing items on the top shelf. “I would say the cocktail shaker set should be on the top because it is so gorgeous and it’s kind of the epitome of the bar cart,” she explains. “And then, of course, next you have all of your liquor or wine bottles. I would say maybe choose a couple of your favorites and those can go on the top as well.”

When it comes to decorating your bar cart, don’t be afraid to put your own creative spin on it! You can’t go wrong as long as you choose items you love. As Maggie says, “It can be a real statement piece!”
