What makes Thanksgiving so special isn't the opportunity to get together with family and stuff your face with food. It's the opportunity to get together with family and give thanks for the many wonderful things in your life. If you want a little reminder, there's a sweet tool that can help with that: Turkey on the Table.

Turkey on the Table is a stuffed animal made of soft knit yarn, which comes with 13 double-sided "feathers" and a marker for writing on them. The idea is that you can plop the turkey in the middle of your table and have guests fill in what they're grateful for on the feathers, which are then stuck back into the toy's behind—giving him a full, happy look once all the feathers are in place. The turkey set also comes with a lovely book about giving gratitude.

Of course, the way you use the toy is up to you, and the company has other ideas for how you could make the ritual your own. You could distribute the feathers as guests walk in, so they can add to the turkey in their own time, or use the feathers as place cards at each seat at the dinner table. Another idea is to extend the gratitude throughout the month of November; just set out the turkey featherless a few weeks before the big day, and you and your family can add a feather with a different item of gratitude nearly every day until the cutie is fully "dressed" by the holiday.

The company was created by two moms, April George and Kerry Maunus. "Our goal was to turn 'thankfulness' into an activity, focusing on the things we have, and not the things we don't," they explain on their site. "A thankful heart is a happy heart!"

It's not only a cute idea, but a way to give back. For each Turkey on the Table kit purchased, 10 meals are delivered to those in need via the nonprofit Feeding America, which works with a national network of food banks, soup kitchens, and shelters.

Why not start it as an annual tradition this year? You can refill your turkey year after year with replacement feathers, which come in multiple patterns, including paisley, confetti, and a chevron/polka dot. There are also feathers that kids can color in—yet another way to keep them entertained during the long Thanksgiving meal.

Aside from being a fun idea and a way to give back, the stuffed turkey is also just an adorable centerpiece for your table, or could function as seasonal decor on a table or mantel throughout the month of November. We're calling it: This little guy is the next Elf on a Shelf.

If you're considering a purchase, keep in mind that you have to order by noon CST on Friday, November 22, 2019 to ensure delivery before Thanksgiving.
