Tucker Carlson's Next Fill-In Revealed as Fox Makes 'Significant' Move

Fox News has announced Tucker Carlson's next temporary replacement following the infamous host's alleged ousting by the network—though official statements report they "agreed to part ways."

After the controversial figure's final program aired on Friday, April 21, a spokesperson announced, "Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating Fox News personalities until a new host is named."

This past week Fox & Friends' Brian Kilmeade took the reigns, but next week, starting Monday, if you tune in for the 8 p.m. slot, you'll see Lawrence Jones, the youngest Black solo host of a cable news program, instead.

Jone, 30, has been with the network for several years now and was named the host of Lawrence Jones Cross Country last January.

An insider told Page Six that the decision to have Jones "step up so soon after Tucker’s departure" is "significant," perhaps due to his differing political viewpoints from many of his conservative colleagues.

In a recent interview with the Dallas Morning News, he revealed that Sean Hannity originally offered him a role as a correspondent on Fox.

“I told him no, I didn’t think it was a good idea, ‘Because I’m a libertarian, and we’re going to disagree a lot,’” he said. “And he said, ‘Oh, that’s OK. Just be you.’ And I said, ‘No, we’re really going to disagree.’ He goes, ‘Just give it a shot.’ And that turned from two months, into a year. And he said, ‘Listen, LJ, if you just be you, you’ll have your own show.’”

Now, according to the publication, he pulls in a million viewers for his Saturday night slot.

Carlson, for his part, hasn't said much about his departure. When paparazzi caught up with him near his Boca Grande, FL home earlier this week, he quipped, "Retirement is going great so far. I haven’t eaten dinner with my wife on a weeknight in seven years."

When they prompted him about his future, he further joked, "Appetizers plus entree," but his executive producer Justin Wells–who was also let go from the network–was also spotted at Carlson's home, assumedly working out what their next steps would be.
