Trying Not to Panic, Because Stephenie Meyer Announced a New ‘Twilight’ Book

From Cosmopolitan

  • Stephenie Meyer’s countdown did indeed lead to the announcement that she’s releasing a Twilight book called Midnight Sun this year.

  • A small portion of the book leaked online in 2008.

  • Midnight Sun will come out on August 4.

2020 has been an absolute dumpster fire, but Stephenie Meyer just came through with one thing to look forward to this year. Finally, after a full freaking decade (plus two years), the Twilight saga continues!

Once the countdown clock on Meyer’s website ran out, Twilight fans immediately set their own for August 4 because that’s when the author will release Midnight Sun. For all the fair-weather fans who didn’t pore over leaked PDFs in 2008, this next installment centers around Edward Cullen’s perspective and his internal dialogue when he met Bella Swan. Translation: It’s gonna be broody AF. Here’s what the publisher had to say about it:

“This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting beautiful, mysterious Bella is both the most intriguing and unnerving event he has experienced in his long life as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he let himself fall in love with Bella when he knows that he is endangering her life?”

Legit me right now:

And according to Meyer, this book is gonna be so much longer than the first because “Edward overthinks everything.” Guess we’ll learn more about why Edward is so obsessed with saving Bella’s soul the entire time they’re together. Or perhaps Meyer will officially canonize the “hold on tight, spider monkey” line and 13-year-old me can finally sleep at night?

Whatever ends up happening, let’s just hope it’s nothing remotely close to when Meyer once said the only new Twilight content would be “three paragraphs on my blog saying which of the characters died.” Also, can someone start crunching the numbers so we can figure out how much it’ll cost to get Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart signed on for a movie?!
