  • President Donald Trump recently returned to the Nelk Boys program for a conversation.

  • He was surprised, however, by a gift from the hosts that genuinely seemed to impress the man.

  • It was a baseball bat once used by Joe DiMaggio.

Since the United States has, for its entire existence, never had lifetime appointments for the top job in the nation (while some other countries still cling to monarchs and coronations), and since only eight presidents have shuffled off this mortal coil while occupying the White House, we get to bear witness to a fascinating phenomenon that occurs roughly every four to eight years: seeing what a President gets up to when they're no longer the President.

Some focus on humanitarian aid. Some on adventure and exploration. So what is our most recent former President, Donald J. Trump, getting up to these days? Okay, besides getting indicted. And selling digital trading cards. And getting indicted again. And "still really running the country because he never actually lost the election," according to your unstable uncle.

Well, he's been appearing on podcasts, it turns out—and making such an impression on the hosts that they decide to gift him a significant piece of baseball memorabilia!

Trump has long stated his love of the sport of baseball. And while the man has an unarguable reputation as a fabulist, this is one thing that's easy to believe. In fact, the day the former President got to play catch on the South Lawn of the White House with New York Yankees Hall of Fame pitcher Mariano Rivera, as pictured above, seemed to be one of the happiest days of his presidency.

I mean, if you don't count that moment where he attempts to catch a ball thrown by Rivera, and he looks like Wile E. Coyote the moment he realizes he just ran off a cliff. But we won't include that image out of respect for the dignity of the office.

Trump recently sat down with the "Nelk Boys"—which is precisely the kind of program you imagine it is—and the hosts presented the former president with a gift that had the famously talkative politician momentarily speechless.

Presented with a baseball bat formerly used by Joe DiMaggio, Trump quickly threw out one of the iconic player's famous nicknames, "Joltin' Joe." Seemingly genuinely touched by the gift (and we believe it because he's not that good of an actor to fake it), the former president praises the gift in exactly the terms you'd expect, noting, "That's a very expensive gift."

Odds are, Trump will likely keep the bat pristine and on display, perhaps at Mar-A-Lago, which apparently has ample space for storing and showing off so many things to so many people. But should he ever face off with Mariano Rivera again, maybe he'll bring this lucky bat with him. And hopefully, it goes a bit better than last time.

...Alright, you want to see that picture, don't you? Okay, Okay:
