Truman Capote will soon be celebrated in a musical crafted by composer and lyricist Ryan Scott Silver. Called Party of the Century, the production will reimagine one of the most famous society events in American history: Capote's 1966 Black and White Ball at the Plaza Hotel.

Silver has only just begun writing alongside Kirsten Guenther, whom he worked with on a previous production called Mrs. Sharp. Though Silver has yet to have a show produced on Broadway, his past industry awards, which include the Klbean Prize, Jonathan Larson Grant, and Richard Rodgers Award, signal a promising result, and per Broadway News, his new project will be "full of queerness, and betrayal, and murder."

On November 28, 1966, Capote hosted more than 500 people at the Plaza Hotel to honor his friend, Kay Graham, publisher of the Washington Post. But, this was no regular party: it was one where Manhattan blue-bloods and socialites like Babe Paley mingled with artists and intellectuals like Andy Warhol clad in black-tie attire and masquerade masks.

Capote was known as the chronicler of New York society's most glamorous set of women, which he called his "Swans," a group, which included Paley, Slim Keith, CZ Guest, and Lee Radziwill. While these women initially let Capote into their highly exclusive world, their friendship would later disintegrate following an expose by Capote in Esquire's November 1975 issue called Le Côte Basque, 1965, which essentially aired their dirty laundry.

Aside from the musical, which has yet to have a premiere date, Capote's legacy will also be relived in Ryan Murphy's forthcoming Feud: Capote's Women starring Naomi Watts, Calista Flockhart, and Tom Hollander.
